Editor – Medical Communications, £33-42k (depending on experience)

About The Job

Virgo Health is a global, integrated healthcare communications agency with hubs in London and New York. As part of the GOLIN group and the IPG network of companies, we support clients across more than 50 markets.

The Health Education team is a specialist division focusing on medical communications. We work across a diverse range of therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, women’s health, cardiovascular, infectious, autoimmune and rare diseases. The team follows projects from pre to post launch, while working collaboratively with our global and UK-based clients to deliver creative and impactful medical communications that make a difference to healthcare professionals and patients.

What is the role?

The editor will assist the medical writing team and other departments in the development and delivery of high-quality medical education and communications. To coordinate other medical writing support team members and encourage best practice and use of health education processes across the wider team.

What will you be doing?

  • Coordinate editorial resource to include copy edit, style and proofread of documents
  • Proofread all styles of document to a high standard in line with client or Virgo house style
  • Mark-up/style copy and figures prior to design
  • Make suggestions for improvements in copy flow and tone
  • Creatively design and format materials to make content informative and engaging
  • Support with Veeva/FUSE reference tagging
  • Support with data checking documents
  • Ensure adherence to editorial SOPs and proactively recommend improvements to teams
  • Undertake internet searches to support medical writers, through platforms such as PubMed
  • Plan workload, forecast and resource planning for editorial work, through short-term planning and allocation of Editorial team’s workload within account teams, and proactively highlight resource gaps and recommend solutions to the Principal Editor
  • Provide team support as required, working with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude

As an Editor, you will…

  • Have a scientific background with a degree in the life sciences
  • Have previous editing experience within a medical communications agency or in scientific publications
  • Demonstrate excellent copy-editing and English language skills
  • Show excellent attention to detail
  • Have knowledge of specialist approval software, including Veeva and FUSE
  • Have working knowledge of the ABPI and other regulatory bodies, as well as copyright law and procedures
  • Exhibit excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to forecast and manage workload
  • Have a flexible approach to working, with the ability to reprioritise and work under pressure when needed
  • Demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Have comprehensive IT skills (including MS office, database/internet searching, etc.)
  • Show excellent PowerPoint and Word document formatting, with an understanding of master templates, colour palettes and general design principles
